Automated droplet microfluidics


We construct automated systems for on-demand generation of microdroplets and for manipulating them on the chip. We are interested in systems capable of accepting small and large samples, generating hundreds to thousands of droplets, each having a predefined combination of the input solutions and then monitoring the chemical and biological processes in the drops. We use these systems in chemistry for screening of conditions for synthesis of molecules and nanoparticles. We build systems for screening of the bioactivity of small molecules both alone and in combinations acting on microorganisms and multicellular models used in pharmacology. An important focus is on long-term studies, e.g. long term cultivation of microorganisms in hundreds of microdroplets in parallel to study the emergence of drug resistance and processes of evolution.
